Tel/Age of the Wolf: Vigils

Dave Aftandilian Age of the Wolf’s side breathes in the thick, hallucinogenic vapors of the Oracle’s cave, opening the axis mundi to travel all realms of existence, as well as to explore the spiritual qualities of deep, sludgy doom itself. Tel’s side has a sparer, drone-oriented sound, yet one that is also profoundly dislocating and haunting, offering a sidelong glance at the world that reveals horrors better left unseen.

Heddbuzz (I.R. Puffinstuff) Own the debut lp by Tel on wax so, yeah. Age of the Wolf, however, is both new at heddquarters and a major bonus. Favorite track: Slaves to the Riff.

pichazos An outstanding production by both bands. I already knew Age of the Wolf but this brought Tel to my attention as well. Favorite track: Priestess of Cledones.

Tel - Punish 06:24
I hate the taste of blood, but I love how it looks as it drips onto white tile from my grinning teeth. Drift away from my sight; don’t punish me for your broken life. Harsh is the chill of the February night. Leave the windows open as you sleep and hope to freeze before dawn. The sun teases us with a spring that shall never come. In this life we lead, there is no warmth to be found. Free me from this hunger, I am starving for a glimpse of truth. Cleanse me from my past, if only my crimes could be reversed. Wipe away the memory of me, I shall see my way out alone. Drift away from my sight; don’t punish me for your broken life.

Tel - Downer 08:59
Awaken with an urge, a hunger that must be fed, an addiction to the only cure, an illness nothing else can mend. Every time is the last but someday, it will go too far. I’m standing too close to the edge of a fall I know I won’t survive. Awaken with an urge; a wish to sink into the bliss. Forfeit control of the impulses, try to survive one more night. Every time is the last but someday, it will go too far. I’m standing too close to the edge of a fall I know I won’t survive. I will never let my guard down again.

about

Facebook (Age of the Wolf): www.facebook.com/ageofthewolf

United States based melodic doom lords Tel and Costa Rica based sludge masters Age of the Wolf connected with each other through social media back in late 2019, having both released their debut albums within a few months of one another. In spite of the thousands of miles between them, the two bands quickly developed a strong relationship- sharing a love for heavy and dark music. As a result, both bands committed to releasing a split together. This endeavour was to become “Vigils”. Work on “Vigils” began during the COVID-19 pandemic as both bands took the time in quarantine to continue strengthening their craft and writing new material. The result of this work led to a split which can best be described as a diverse, yet cohesive, doom metal release. The cold, atmospheric works of Tel and the loud, fuzz-driven approach of Age of the Wolf take opposite sides of the same coin; with both bands performing heavy, aggressive, and intense sounding music in their own unique manners. Following both the completion of the record as well as the the hook-up with Philadelphia based record-label Electric Talon Records in April of 2021, “Vigils” is now slated for a August 13th, 2021 release.
